🚐 Red Gate Farms RV Resort: A Peaceful Retreat
We based ourselves at Red Gate Farms RV Resort, just a few minutes from downtown Savannah. It was the perfect mix of quiet countryside and convenient access to the city. The resort has gorgeous grounds, friendly staff, and even a few horses to say hello to—which quickly became a highlight for Emma.
🍭 Savannah's Candy Kitchen: Sugar Rush Central
Let’s just say... you don’t walk past Savannah’s Candy Kitchen without going in. The kids were in candy heaven with homemade pralines, taffy being pulled right in front of us, and enough samples to keep everyone (temporarily) quiet. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, this place is a must.
🎬 Chippewa Square: Forrest Gump Fans, This One’s for You
Of course, we had to stop by Chippewa Square, the iconic filming location of the bench scenes from Forrest Gump. While the actual bench is now in a museum, the square itself is beautiful—and we couldn’t help but quote a few lines while standing there. ("Life is like a box of chocolates..."). We got some chocolate at the Candy Kitchen and ate it at the Square!
🌳 Forsyth Park: Green Space & Gorgeous Views
We took a stroll through Forsyth Park, one of Savannah’s most photographed spots—and for good reason. The kids loved running through the open green space, and the famous fountain made the perfect backdrop for a few family pics. It’s peaceful, shady, and full of that classic Savannah charm. We even caught a market that was going on!
🪜 River Walk, Historic Steps & Byrd’s Cookies
Next up: the River Walk! We braved the famously steep historic steps (hold onto the rail!) to reach the cobblestone streets along the Savannah River. There’s so much character packed into this stretch of the city. We popped into Byrd’s Cookies for even more local treats—because obviously, one snack stop just wasn’t enough.
🚎 Old Town Trolley Tour: A Fun Way to Learn
We definitely recommend the Old Town Trolley Tour to learn more about Savannah’s deep history. It was the perfect way to take in the sights while giving our legs a break. The guides were fun and knowledgeable, and it gave us lots of ideas for places to revisit in the future.
🐴 Wrapping It Up With a Reunion & Horseback Ride
Once Danny made it back to join the fun, we closed out the trip with some fresh air and a horseback ride at Red Gate Farms. Emma had a blast riding again.
